RIGHTEOUSNESS

The Greek word  (dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay) translated “righteousness”, is best defined simply as   God’s standard of perfection. It denotes that which is just, right or holy. Absolute perfection is defined as "holiness" and the Bible teaches that God alone is Holy within His character and makeup; thus it is an attribute that is unique only to God.
Righteousness” is an absolute term and cannot be expressed as a relative term either one is righteous (100%) or unrighteous (0%) An example of this would be a pregnant woman, for either she has conceived or she has not, there are no variables. Because God is holy, His justice demands that He must reject all that is unrighteous, therefore He must judge and condemn the sinner. (Romans 1:18; 2:8; 3:5).The Bible teaches that there is none righteous (Romans 3:10, 23) and that righteousness cannot be obtained by ones actions. It was through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:22),that our salvation was obtained, by the means of His meritorious works and righteousness alone. Many in error attempt to live up to God's standards in and of themselves, which is an impossible feat. (Romans 10:3), for righteousness cannot be defined by the quality of what man exhibits, but solely by the essence of Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for the sin of mankind. Accordingly, righteousness, holiness pureness, goodness, etc., are all attributes of God that are bestowed on the believer through identification with the faithfulness of Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9). Our righteousness is in Him alone!
